How To Get Abs (Ab Exercises and Crunches Do NOT Work)

I get asked this question many times per month.

“If I do crunches and ab exercises everyday, how long does it take to get abs?”

Unfortunately it doesn’t work.

No matter how hard you train your abs you will not get them just by excercising them.

Want to know a little secret?

I rarely train my abs, but I still got great abs!

Training abs will only make your abdominal muscles stronger and bigger.

So the secret to getting abs is to eliminate the fat that is covering our abs.

Because we all got abs, there is just fat covering them.

In this article I will tell you how to get abs.

What you need to do in order to achieve that.

How To Get Abs

Forget about crunches

Well crunches is definitely not a bad exercise but don’t put too much focus on it.

Because it’s not the best exercise for getting abs.

Instead do exercises and workouts that gets your heart rate going.

That will increase the metabolism and help you burn off the fat that is covering our stomach area.

I would suggest doing HIIT, lifting, home workouts with high intensity.

Exercises such as squats, walking lunges and step ups are in my opinion superior.

Because they will get your heart rate up and work the legs which are the biggest muscles on our body.

Drink A lot of water

To eliminate water retention and bloating you must drink a lot of water.

When your body receives a lot of water (preferably more than 1 galloon per day) something magical happens.

Because your body is receiving so much water it will start flushing out excess water out of your body.

This will eliminate stomach bloating and make you look slimmer.

I actually use this trick a lot especially if I have to wear my bikini.

It makes my abs show more and my waist looks slimmer.

However you have to do this for about a week to make it really work and see the difference.

Drop the carbs

Most women eat way too many carbs.

One gram of carbs can hold up to 3 grams of water in our body.

So carbs are responsible for that stomach bloating that makes us look fatter.

Simply lower your carb intake and aim to eat your carbs only around your workouts.

When I’m trying to lose weight I only eat carbs after workouts.

Only once per day.

I feel that helps be trim down faster.

Try it, I guarantee you will feel the difference and see results.

Consistency is key

Losing fat around your stomach area takes time.

You have to consistently eat right and train to see results.

What prevents many women from seeing their abs is quitting too soon.

They might be doing all the right things and are well on their way, but they don’t see the results and give up.

Quitting too soon is definitely a big problem.

Because it may take you a longer time than you expected to see the results you are aiming for.

So stay consistent and keep believing that your hard work will eventually deliver the results you were hoping for.

Keep the protein high

To get abs and toned muscles you must eat enough protein to support fat loss and maintain muscle mass.

If your protein intake is low your body won’t receive the necessary fuel it needs to get abs.

Salad is not enough.

You must add some protein into the mix.

When I say protein I’m not talking about protein shakes.

I’m talking about foods that contain a lot of protein like:

  • Chicken
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Eggs

Try to eat at least 2-3 meals that contain some of these foods everyday.

You can of course eat more meals per day but you must realize that your body needs protein.

Use A Fat Burner

As you know by now diet and training are the most important factors for losing those stubborn pounds of fat around your stomach area.

Once you figured out how to eat right and train you might want to consider adding a fat burning supplement to the mix.

They will definitely help you to get quicker results but they aren’t by any means magic pills.

You still have to work hard on your diet and training in order for fat burners to work.

They work by blocking fat production, increasing the metabolism and reducing hunger cravings.
